{"id":2893,"date":"2025-08-19T16:05:29","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T14:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/perceive-horizon.eu\/?page_id=2893"},"modified":"2025-09-05T18:25:50","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T16:25:50","slug":"demonstrator-scream-time-machine","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/perceive-horizon.eu\/index.php\/results\/perceive-tools\/demonstrator-scream-time-machine\/","title":{"rendered":"Demonstrator &#8211; Scream Time Machine"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center; margin-bottom: 80px;\">Scream Time Machine<\/h2>\n<div class=\"perceive-container\">\n<p class=\"custom-font\">Scream Time Machine is a proof-of-concept designed within <a href=\"https:\/\/perceive-horizon.eu\/index.php\/scenarios\/scenario2-paintings\/\">Scenario 2<\/a> of PERCEIVE project, as <strong>an immersive experience of the iconic \u201cThe Scream\u201d (1910?) painting<\/strong>, owned by MUNCH museum in Oslo. This experience was showcased and evaluated at the InArt24 workshop (<em>Colour and appearance for cultural heritage &#8211; new research approaches from the ApPEARS and PERCEIVE projects<\/em>) and during the conference (3rd \u20137th of June 2024), followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khm.uio.no\/english\/research\/inart2024\/conference-programme\/index.html#june-3\">a full day display<\/a> at the Cultural History Museum (KHM) in Oslo on 8th June 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"custom-font\">The concept <strong>enhances the access and a sense of care for fragile and precious artworks<\/strong>, deepens curiosity, and provides personal relevance and interpretation of the colored surface of the painting and its change over time, without requiring the download of an app. Both<strong> conservation and scientific perspectives around color change<\/strong> (mainly fading) and <strong>interactive exploration<\/strong> with the surface and materiality of the object were considered in the design of the different components of this experience.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin-top: 0;\">\n        <video width=\"512\" height=\"512\" style=\"max-width: 100%\" controls autoplay style=\"border: 2px solid black; padding: 10px;\"><source src=\"http:\/\/perceive-horizon.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Scream-Time-machine_subtitles.mp4\"><\/video>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"custom-font\">The experiential set-up consists of three components:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Video Tutorial<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Provides context and background information about \u201cThe Scream\u201d (1910?), its story and its scientific investigation spanning several years and different research projects (MOLAB &amp; PERCEIVE etc).<\/li>\n<li>Explains the various parts of the exploration including the production and background behind the acquisition of the 2D and 3D scans and the creation of the printed 3D replicas.<\/li>\n<li>Introduces keywords and images used in the interactive Board Game.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scream Reinvented Display<\/strong> (Fig. 1)\n<ul>\n<li>Features a full 2D scan (30x) of \u201cThe Scream\u201d (1910?) acquired in 2024 using high resolution Hirox digital microscopy technology.<\/li>\n<li>Includes several 3D prints (both monochrome and colored) created with various software and printing technologies, highlighting different areas of the painting affected by color change and its multilayered features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interactive Board Game<\/strong> (Fig. 2)\n<ul>\n<li>Allows players to explore scientific and conservation concepts around color change (primarily fading) and mitigation actions related to \u201cThe Scream\u201d (1910?).<\/li>\n<li>Designed for a minimum of two players, where one can act as the Danger Master and the others as Time Travellers. Every time a Time traveller mistakes the date for the right sequence of the card with an image of the scream, the Danger master is entitled to stop the player and present a Danger card for which the appropriate Care card (action for mitigating the danger) has to be identified. The game can continue once the player chooses the right Care card for the Danger card. If the Danger Master plays all the Danger cards before the Time Travellers complete putting in the correct order the cards, they will lose the game.
